The design of Status pickups has varied over the years but there were three basic designs :

1. Original humbuckers. Punchy humbucker tone. Used through to the early 90's.

2. "Single" coil pickup with hum cancelling coil. Cleaner tone from single coil with hum cancelling from 'dummy' coil. Used from early 90's through to about 1997.

3. Twin coil humbuckers. Warmer tone with more midrange definition. Used from late 90's until present day.
