The Status T-Bass

It was in the early 90's that Trace Elliot asked me to design the original T-Bass as a Limited Edition model.
The last T-Bass was made in 1997.
This latest version now includes some new innovations including
a
woven graphite neck with a phenolic fingerboard.
A graphite neck is more stable, has a more even response and better dynamics.

The original idea was to be make a bass that was classic but original.
There was one particular idea they wanted to include : to angle the tuners down and back towards the player.

This proved much harder to achieve than the original, scribbled drawing.
With the various compound angles it was hard to get everything lined up.
After many prototypes it all worked out.

I named it the E.T.S - Ergonomic Tuning System.

All the other parts of the bass were ideas I had been working on or used for some time :

Woven graphite neck
Mono-rail bridge units
24 fret fingerboard
3 - pickup system with centre hum-cancelling coil
Switchable 2-band active EQ

I designed the J-type pickups to produce a really wide frequency response but regular single-coil pickups have the inherent problem of noise.
The answer was to work out an active circuit that included a central hum-cancelling coil.

This coil works in conjunction with either of the pickups to reduce the hum without
changing the overall tone of the bass. It is 'hidden' under the scratch-plate.

An 18 volt battery supply is used to power the 2-band active circuit. A switch is included which by-passes the EQ section of the circuit without affecting the hum-cancelling effect.

The Status T-Bass is available in a range of solid colours or with a
figured maple and alder body. Transparent tints are available over the maple : cherry red, aqua blue, vintage amber, emerald green etc.
