The KingBass Artist The Artist, (pictured above with a figured maple top and below with a rosewood top), has a 34" scale graphite through-neck as standard. It has 24 medium/jumbo frets set into a black phenolic fingerboard. The standard string spacing is 19mm on the 4-string and 18mm on the 5 and 6 string. A 16.5mm string spacing is available as a custom option. All headless Status basses have the "BendWell" as a custom option. This is a medium (32") scale fingerboard with a scooped recess behind the top-nut which allows string bending and vibrato effects. Both the BendWell and 16.5mm string spacing are exactly as requested by Mark King on all the instruments he has used over the last 6 years. < All KingBass models are available with 4, 5 and 6-strings. Status basses are supplied in a moulded Status hard case as standard. Both front and side LEDs are available in red, green, blue, white or amber. All LEDs are designed and fitted in the Status workshop. The entire instrument is finished in high-gloss polyester lacquer and has gold hardware as standard. The combination of the small, arch-top, double-cutaway body, the headless neck and the BendWell fell into place to produce a bass which prompts Mark to comment : "...this bass makes old bass designs look like dinosaurs".   The Graphite KingBass This new bass is made in a similar fashion to the Stealth-1 with a graphite thro-neck and 24 fret phenolic fingerboard set into an alder wood body. This then has a graphite shell vacuum-presses onto the front and back faces. It is available as either a 4, 5 or 6 string, with a 24 fret, 34" scale fingerboard. The medium scale "BendWell" is available as a custom option. The narrower string spacing, as used by Mark King, can also be specified. Gold hardware is standard but black or chrome hardware, front and side LEDs and a choice of active circuits are also available as custom options.     The KingBass Standard The KingBass Standard, seen above, has a 34" scale graphite neck bolted to a rosewood and mahogany body which is finished in satin polyurethane. It has black hardware as standard but gold and chrome are also available as a custom option. As with all KingBasses, the active E.Q. has an 18 volt power supply. TWO SUPERB CUSTOM MODELS : ' THE 2003 BLACK BEAUTY ' and ' THE PRINCESS ' The " BendWell " allows vibrato effects. Both double-ball and regular string can be used. Double-ball strings simply hook into the recess in the 'top-nut'. Regular strings can be locked into the 'top-nut' using the screws supplied with the bass. TOP
